Welcome to Platoon Forward!

Welcome to the site where the story of the battle is as important as the battle itself. Here we will focus on men thrust into extraordinary situations of life and death. They must lead other men with duty and honor to meet their countries objectives. Some will be blessed with great skill, some will carry great shortcomings. No matter what nation, no matter what war, no matter what theater, they are all called to move their Platoon or Squadron forward!

These are their individual stories as played out using my various campaign rules . Hopefully these stories will entertain and inspire you to use your own troops, airmen and sailors to accomplish your own great heroics.

PLATOON FORWARD PUBLISHED!!!

After 2 weeks of nightly editing with Rich from Too Fat Lardies it is done and ready for your enjoyment. It can be downloaded at the Too Fat Lardie site for a mear 7 pounds or $11.33.

What a process. Doing all the editing and developing really made me hone some concepts that were vague in my head. Rich streamlined it and his charts are clear and concise. A big thank you to Rich for taking the chance and publishing this. As he told me, " This is uncharted waters. This is a unique product."
Remember, I am just a gamer who is sharing how he plays his games. Now I want to start hearing Your stories!!!
Any questions that come up I can answer them here, TMP or the Lardies Yahoo board.

A platoon moving forward
Thanks and enjoy!
Joe

  1. Well done!
Snapped it up yesterday - going to have to print it off to carefully read it, but my first impressions are wholly positive

  3. Hi Joe,

I really enjoyed Platoon Forward, especially the 2nd section dedicated to solo scenario generation. I played through scenario A today, and have posted a report on my blog at:-

    http://pcjohnstone.wordpress.com/2011/01/29/disposable-heroes-ww2-29102011-solo/

On the question of a preliminary barrage against blinds (as in Scenario A), I was wondering what method you used to work this out?

    Thanks

  4. Norman,
I plan out and resolve the barrages on the blinds as per your rules. I treat As/Bs as infantry. The blinds absorb damage/pins ect without rolling for what the blind actually is. If your system needs a leader for rallying use a gr I leader. Once the blind is spotted or needs to "get in the game" roll for it. If real is sustains the damage. Does that explain it?
    Nice blog BTW

  5. Hi Joe, that should work fine for the barrage, and assuming that it will be ineffective against C blinds as they will be armour or further back in the line seems fair. I seem to remember that the Lardies' "Through the Mud and the Blood" had quite a good artillery section, so I might dig that up and have a look.
Thanks for the kind words on the blog.

  7. I think its a great book Joe, and a must have for any gamer who dabbles in RPG style development or solo gaming.

I'm into Dark Age gaming at the moment, so I'm contemplating developing some appropriately themed character templates for "Warband Forward!"

cheers and thanks for all your hard work on this great book

  8. Hi Joseph,
Just bought copy via Too Fat Lardies ~ Havn't played yet but looks to be a great piece of work, can't wait to get going.
Just a couple of initial observations which you may be able to clarify (and I'm not being a critic, hell I would have struggled to produce such a fantastic piece of work):
The Initial personality test talks of White & red dice but the table x/y axis don't indicate which is which. Its only due to the example that it can be figured out ~ perhaps colour coding the dice figures in the table next edition?
On the motivation test the example states a roll of 14 gives 'Government' as an outcome but this could only be the case if the 14 is added to the dice roll of 6 for personality?

Not got much further yet but again many thanks for a great piece of work.

  9. Jas,
Fair enough on your first comment and I am embarrest by your second!@ You are right about the second and I didn't catch it. I am so sorry. What happen is I switched the table around after the example was written and forgot to go back and change the example. My bad. Do not at 6. With a roll of 14 that should be avarice.
    Thanks for the feedback!

  10. Cheers Joe,
Looks like you are working on ones for Air warfare, any ideas when thay may be ready?
Any plans on Naval, although same principles as Platoon fwd could be used I suppose for Ship captains,Admirals etc.

  11. Just stumbled onto your blog via another post, what a great place!
Is Platoon Forward a self contained set of rules? Does it run the opposing force somehow?
Your Fields Of Fire with miniatures post is fantastic.
Thanks for sharing all of this!
